VIDEO: Kix Brooks - "New To This Town"

We've seen Ronnie Dunn front and center in a couple of his own music videos, now his Brooks & Dunn partner gets his turn with "New To This Town." The song is the first single from Kix Brooks' upcoming solo album due in stores this year.

When it came time to create the storyline for the video, Kix didn't have to look far for a writer. Kix shares, "My son studied film and screenwriting at Vanderbilt. I had the song and actually we were just sitting in the kitchen watching a ball game and I said, ‘Man, I’ve gotta come up with a good idea for this song.’ And, I said, ‘See if you can come up with something.’ About an hour later, he came down with this great treatment, and basically, it made perfect sense because the title is ‘New To This Town,’ so he wrote this treatment backwards. It’s like the only way to be new to this town is to turn back the hands of time."

The video follows the saga of a young couple going through the ups and apparently, the many downs of love in a small town; however, it does so in a unique way. Kix explains, "It not only plays out in reverse, but we filmed it backwards. I’m moving forward through this love story that’s in reverse... Everybody’s gonna have to watch it at least five times to figure out what in the heck they are looking at [laughs]."

The concept made filming the clip a little complicated as well. Kix says, "To film things in reverse and then reverse ‘em and we had to do these performances several times with a green screen behind them so that they could all be layered on top of each other to make this work. Technically, it was pretty complicated and some pretty tedious business. [There was] a lot of patience involved, but now to look at it, it’s really interesting and it turned out great.”
