2001 - Tim McGraw scored a number one hit with "Grown Men Don't Cry."
2000 - Charley Pride and Faron Young were announced as the newest inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
1999 - Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty and Johnny Bond were announced as the newest inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
1998 The USO presented the Country Music Association with the Spirit of Hope Award in recognition of the many country artists who played for the troops.
1998 Renowned Nashville artist manager Jack McFadden, who managed Buck Owens and Billy Ray Cyrus, died of cancer at 71.
1997 Alan Jackson became the first artist ever to win Male Vocalist of the Year six times at the TNN/Music City News Country Awards.
1981 - The Oak Ridge Boys were awarded a gold single for "Elvira."
